As we steer towards the end of January it could be that some resolutions have fallen by the wayside and you may feel stuck on a treadmill of people pleasing and struggling to set boundaries. If any of this applies to you, it could be time to create your Personal Mission Statement, while these may be often be associated with big corporations a personal mission statement can be a really effective life tool.

A personal mission statement can be a great a tool when faced with dilemmas or situations where you feel compromised, because if something doesn’t fit with your personal mission statement you have given yourself grounds to refuse or decline.
When we look at creating a Personal Mission Statement for ourselves it enables us to articulate our purpose, clarify our values, and make better decisions, both personally and professionally.
I have been looking at mission statements as a tool for life coaching and I feel it they have its genuine value and it is a concept that is worth sharing. It could even be an interesting activity for the cold dark nights ahead?
A personal mission statement can be useful for staying grounded and focused, especially when faced with difficult choices or setbacks in your life.
By defining your personal mission, you can:
Set boundaries
Have a better sense of direction
Set goals and establish priorities
Improve decision-making
Empower yourself
The How
Think about your passions, what brings you joy, what motivates you?
What are your main principles?
What qualities do you value most, such as integrity, kindness, or perseverance?
What do you hope to achieve in life, both personally and professionally?

As you consider these questions, be honest with yourself and choose the things that truly resonate with you, avoid the temptation to adopt other peoples beliefs or expectations as your statement needs to be a reflection of your authentic self.
Creating Your Personal Mission Statement-What are values?
Your values should reflect what is most important to you, and form the basis of your mission statement.
Reflect on your past experiences and list the values you demonstrated in those situations.
Ask yourself what values you hold most dear and which ones guide your decisions.
Narrow the list to the top 3-5 that resonate with you the most.
These will serve as the basis for your personal mission statement.
Setting Your Goals
Now that you have identified your values, it’s time to set your personal and professional goals.
These goals should align with your values.
Consider both short-term and long-term goals.
Be realistic about what you want to achieve.

Writing Your Statement
Now that you have defined your values and goals, you can begin crafting your personal mission statement. Once you have created your statement, print or write it out, stick in on your fridge, put it on a t-shirt, memorise it and when life throws a curved ball, refer to it!!
